In contrast to 2023, which was the year of maximalist kitchens, 2024 is adopting a far more understated strategy while still providing plenty of eye candy. Big, bold hues like Pink and Green were popular in kitchen designs, but designers say that in the new year, they're going back to something a little more subdued. Kitchen design experts are presenting the top trends they anticipate seeing in 2024, which range from graphic tile installations and dramatic vent hoods to Warm Earth tones.
Important Kitchen Trends to Watch
in 2024:
While fresh
color schemes, Scandinavian design, and a more minimalistic approach are all
expected to be popular in the next year, according to Atlanta-based interior
designer Muhammad Waqar, he believes that a lot of focus
will be on how our kitchens function.
According to Muhammad Waqar,
"Optimized storage solutions, quiet appliances, and the incorporation of beverage stations are the focus on improving functionality."
Though last year's kitchen design was accented with a dramatic use of color throughout, Muhammad Waqar, CEO of Build Pakistan, reiterates that this year is all about keeping things quiet.
Large island
tops, waterfall edges, and counter slabs will provide the actual drama in the
kitchen. Imagine striking patterns in the stonework paired with
colorful pendants hanging at a low angle.
While kitchen islands will still serve as areas for prep and dining, there will also be a greater emphasis on eat-in nooks, which will take up more space in the kitchen and become a more permanent fixture.
Although
kitchen backsplashes are often designed with tile, designers are beginning to
substitute quartz or stone slabs behind the range and cooktop.
"The kitchen's slab, which is frequently made of the same material as the countertops, has graphic veining and intriguing details that really create a striking focal point and are also very easy to clean."
In 2024,
kitchen design will depend heavily on details. By paying attention to millwork
elements like fluted cabinets, designers can make sure that no space in the
kitchen is left unnoticed.
Muhammad Waqar, CEO of Build Pakistan claims that,
"Throughout the year, fluted elements have been seen at design exhibits, highlighting anything from living room furniture to bathroom vanities to kitchen islands. The aesthetic creates a thick, often rough statement-making detail beneath dining room tables, bathroom vanities, and island countertops."
Depending on the specifics of the design, fluting can complement a range of aesthetics, from a classic midcentury look to a more modern one.
Green is
also very popular, even though blue is usually the hue used to create a more
tranquil kitchen environment. According to Interior Designers, the biophilic impact of
the design industry is the reason for our current trend toward warmer, earthier
tones.
"Blue has a calming effect on people because there is so much going on in the world. Whether it's a deep watery color or a hue inspired by the sky, look for an array of blues to be featured more prominently in decorative materials and housewares in the coming year."
In a similar spirit, natural wood cabinetry is making a major comeback. Warmer color schemes and natural wood cabinetry are becoming more popular among homeowners, according to Crockett, who also observes a move away from harsh white kitchens.

The unique treatment is being applied to kitchen storage. In 2024, kitchens will have customizable solutions, walk-in pantries, and appliance garages to make sure everything has a place.
Let us explain what an appliance garage is if you've never heard of one. They keep coffee makers, toasters, and other countertop gadgets neatly hidden while still being easily accessible.
"Despite being around for decades, appliance garages are seeing a rise in popularity as more people put gadgets in their kitchens in an effort to declutter their homes."
